Digitization of the Maritime Strategic Sector concentrates on the usage of digital technology in aquaculture fishery for farmers with pond areas less than 5 hectares and focuses on vaname shrimp commodities. On the other hand, this program undertakes capture fishery for fishermen with a large ship of less than 10 GT and a plunge in knitting and lobster commodities. The implementation of digital technology in the maritime value chain from upstream to downstream is expected to increase yield production and carry out the efficiency of production costs. These digital technologies have some advantages namely provide real-time information about pond water conditions, give action recommendations regarding necessity (precision fish farming), provide information about selling price, and facilitate a transaction between fisherman and consumer (capture fisheries).
The value chain of the Maritime Sector has four primary activities such as the provision of inputs (provision of capital and material), production (technical maintenance and cultivation), post-production (technical harvest /capture), and sales (technical pasca-harvest/pasta-capture). Of all activities, four activities have a digital solution for aquaculture fishery and capture fishery, implemented in Indonesia, for example, the provision of capital and material, technical maintenance and cultivation, technical harvest/capture, and technical pasca-harvest/pasta-capture.
In 2021, MCI had implemented an information digital solution for measuring water quality in the pond using IoT in real-time through the usage of water quality sensors for vaname shrimp commodities in Pemalang Regency, Purworejo Regency, and Banyuwangi Regency and a digital solution with the marketplace for rajungan commodities in Sukabumi Regency, Berau Regency, Bangkalan Regency, Bangka Selatan Regency, West Muna Regency, and Wakatobi Regency.
Water quality sensors can provide the information about temperature, pH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen in the pond water and give recommendations to maintain water quality based on the necessity until the preventive action likely the provision of organic/chalk material to control water quality using automatic daily logging parameters such as water temperature, salinity, pH, and dissolved oxygen. All parameters can be accessed by android devices for the farmers. Even though, there is a trade digital solution via marketplaces that can give the information about the selling price of capturing products and facilitate the transaction between fisherman and consumers.
