I just want to share about how to make strategic planning. Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy (Wikipedia). When I studied Strategic Planning of Information System, I got the information that how to make strategic planning. We must identify internal conditions and external conditions in our organization of business and information technology aspect.
First, analyze of Business Internal use some methods such as SWOT Analyze, Critical Success Factor Analyze and Value Chain. Strategic Planning for General Directorate of Informatic Application 2010 - 2014, it applies SWOT (Strength and Weakness) analysis to determine business strategy, business process, and organization environment. Whereas, in Strategic Planning for the General Directorate of Informatic Application 2015 - 2019, we will use the foresight method. The foresight Method has involving top-down and bottom-up then it uses science, innovation, and looking at future trends.
Second, to analyze information technology internally, we must exert the identification of weaknesses and strengths in our information technology like hardware, software, computer networking, and management of information technology. Third, to analyze business externally, we can use the five force's competitive model and SWOT Analyze (Opportunities and Threats). It can identify issues of economic, social, law, political, government, etc.
Fourth, analyze information technology externally to get a perspective on trends and opportunities of information technology, the trend in enterprise architecture, trends in application and database, and trends in security.
